Irfan Gul was born in 1979 and grew up in Shahdadpur- a small town of Sindh. In 1993 his family decided to move to Hyderabad City for better education of kids. While doing his undergrads in Commerce from University of Sindh in 1998, he made a friend in the department of Fine Arts, who saw his random drawings and encouraged him to pursue Art education. Despite his family’s opposition Irfan joined National College of Arts, where he maintained to be a position holder every year and secured scholarships to fund his education. Gul earned the highest award in the faculty of design (Chughtai Award) and Principal’s Honors Award at the completion of his textile design degree in 2003. From 2003 to late 2006 Irfan worked as a designer for the textile industry and illustrated many books for kids while continuing his passion for painting alongside. In 2006 he joined his alma mater (NCA) as lecturer and is still serving the prestigious institute. He had his first major group show of paintings in 2007 and first solo show in 2010. Once again Irfan secured the scholarship for his masters in Visual Art in 2010 and was selected for the Charles Wallace Visiting Artist Award in 2013.
